Star-Spangled bummer

“When our land is illumined with Liberty’s smile,

If a foe from within strike a blow at her glory,

Down, down with the traitor that dares to defile

The flag of her stars and the page of her story!

By the millions unchained who our birthright have gained,

We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained!

And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave

While the land of the free is the home of the brave.”

Additional Civil War time verse to The Star-Spangled Banner

The only inauguration I had in mind on Saturday night was my new ‘Tokyo’ sequined shawl-collar tuxedo jacket. It took me a while to settle on the best T-shirt to wear underneath. With help from a friend I opted for the ICON collection “One” t-shirt. I have it in black and in white, and I found the latter to nicely complement the glittering beauty of the sequins and beads.

This t-shirt is a modern take on the Harley-Davidson inspired tee worn by Madonna on the cover of Interview in 2001.

At the motorcycle company, the logo was designed by an employee in honour of Mert Lawwill, winner of the Grand National Championship in 1969.

There was a Dsquared2 version of it in an old collection, which you can see below:

It was then reissued in an updated model for AW15-16, being considered an iconic piece.

So I wore it last night. Well, I thought I looked the business…but once I was out, surrounded by fairly intoxicated people, I was approached several times by drunks asking me why I was making this pro-Trump statement.

Archetypal Trump supporters

I had a hard time having to justify my fashion choice when I was only interested in inhebriated courtship, but thankfully my own alcohol intake made me appropriately aggressive too in my responses, which managed to fend off these self-styled Torquemadas while also making the point that I had very little sympathy for the new American president.

If you own any of the below Dsquared pieces, you might want to read the papers of the day to see if America is in hot water or not before wearing it in public.
