In their summer collections, dean and Dan Caten produce a range of sandals. Some have been named after biblical prophets like the “Moses sandal” or the “Jesus on the beach” sandal .
The question is: did Moses and Jesus actually wear sandals?
The Hebrew word for “sandals” is “nashal” (naw-shal) which means “something valueless” (note that the valueless Dsquared2 Moses sandals cost $590 and the Jesus model $475).
Well, Deuteronomy 29:5 tells us: “Yet the LORD says, “During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet”.
Another prophet, Yves St Laurent, used to say: “Fashion fades, style is eternal”. That is why fifteen centuries after Moses, sandals were still in style, and Jesus probably proudly sported a fine pair of them. As we know from John 1:27: “He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
So yes, both Jesus and Moses wore sandals.
I don’t, no wonder nobody listens to me.
